EXCURSION I.

12th April 2018 (Thursday), from 9 am to 5 pm: Three medicinal drinks tour (mineral water, beer, wine)

Destinations: Hnanice church with the miraculous well – Znojmo city tourist train tour with beer degustation – Vranov Chateau guided tour – National park Podyjí/Thayatal and the residues of the onetime Iron Curtain – Znovin estate wine degustation in Havraniky village

Schedule:

9:00 am ­– Departure from the Hotel Vinice Hnanice (Conference Centre) with 2 or 3 buses. The buses will go on separate routes because of the group sizes and they will only meet at lunch!

12:00 am – Lunch in Znojmo

5:00 pm – Arrival of all buses/groups to the Hotel Vinice Hnanice

EXCURSION II.

13th of April 2018. (Friday) from 8:30 am to 6 pm: The capital of Moravia and the place of the great battle

Destination: Slavkov/Austerlitz battle field. Brno city tour and Spielberg fortress.

Schedule:

8:30 am ­– Departure from the Hotel Vinice Hnanice (Conference Centre) with 2 or 3 buses. The buses will go on separate routes because of the group sizes!

10:00 am – 12:00 am – Guided tour in Slavkov/Austerlitz battle field

12:30 am – 2:30 pm – Lunch and free time in Brno. Lunch packages will be provided.

2:30 pm – 4:00 pm – Guided tour in Brno and visiting the Spielberg fortress.

5:00 pm – Arrival of all buses/groups to the Hotel Vinice Hnanice

Information about the destinatoins

The Church of St. Wolfgang in Hnanice has a miraculous spring. The visitors can taste and drink its healing water. According to a legend once the miraculous water helped a blind knight to see again.

Znojmo is one of the most important cities in medieval Moravia, it was first mentioned in records dated 1046. The town is situated on a rock over the steep left bank of the Thaya River. Overlooking the river valley, on the edge of the medieval city, there is Znojmo Castle, dating back to 11th century, founded by Přemysl dukes. At the Vranov Chateau guided tour the participants can learn more about the monumental Baroque castle. The State Chateau at Vranov nad Dyjí is one of the most remarkable secular buildings of the Central European Baroque. It emerged gradually from the end of the 17th century and continued to develop over the course of the 18th century, by rebuilding the original gothic castle of the local overlord, records for which date back to the year 1100.More information about the Chateu: https://www.zamek-vranov.cz/en

National park Podyjí/Thayatal is the smallest national park of Czech Republic. The Dyje Canyon situated between the towns of Vranov nad Dyjí and Znojmo with deeply incised meanders, cliffs and stone-seas, represents one of the last well-preserved river valleys in Central Europe. A section of the river Dyje marks the border between the Czech Republic and Austria. National park Thayatal forms a protected area on the Austrian side of the valley and together with NP Podyjí forms a bilateral protected area. In the village of Čížov the participants will see a preserved section of the Iron Curtain fence.

The old wine-making village of Havraníky is not so far from the Šobes vineyard and it is located in Znojmo District in the South Moravian Region. The village is famous for its very long wine cellars – some of them several hundred meters. A legend says that a visit to the local Calvary in 1680 helped pilgrims to avoid plague. Later in 1815 a chapel consecrated to Virgin Mary was erected there to commemorate this mysterious healing. The area belongs to the Podyjí National Park. Local moorland is a unique habitat of xerophilous fauna e.g. praying mantis, hoopoe and lizards also meadow fescue, heather and dyer’s broom. Austerlitz battle field: The Battle of Austerlitz (2nd December 1805), also known as the Battle of the Three Emperors, was one of the most important and decisive engagements of the Napoleonic Wars. In what is widely regarded as the greatest ever victory achieved by Napoleon. Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic by population and area, the largest Moravian city, and the historical capital city of the Margraviate of Moravia. For over seven centuries, Špilberk (Spielberg Castle has has dominated the skyline of Brno, a reminder of the safety and protection it provided. However, there have been times in the history of Brno when the fortress inspired fear, and represented oppression for the citizens of the city. From a major royal castle established around the mid-13th century, and the seat of the Moravian margraves in the mid-14th century, it was gradually turned into a huge baroque fortress considered the harshest prison in the Habsburg Empire.  More information: http://www.spilberk.cz/en/
